Valerie & Derek in Detroit, MI

Valerie & Derek in Detroit, MI
Photos By: Images of Style by Monica
Location: The Detroit Yacht Club, Detroit
Valerie carried a bold bouquet of orange dahlias, orange sunflowers and sunset-colored roses.
The couple exchanged vows in front of a beautiful fireplace at The Detroit Yacht Club.
To complement the wedding‘s modern circle motif, Valerie created white tented cards with blue circles printed with each guest‘s name and table number.
Yellow spider mums and orange dahlias overflowed in vases filled with blue marbles and lemons.
Blue circles and starbursts dotted the buttercream frosting of the couple‘s three-tiered cake.
When Doug Frederick found out that his closest childhood friend Derek was transferring to Central Michigan University, he thought he had the perfect love match for him -- and he was right. After raving to both of his friends about how great the other one was, Doug set up an outing to introduce Derek to his college neighbor, Valerie. Valerie and Derek instantly became friends. Impressed by his personality, Valerie took a chance and broke off the relationship she was in to have dinner with Derek. The two went on to date for the next six years.

The Bride Valerie Hill, 27, human resources administrator
The Groom Derek Chandler, 27, mortgage loan processor
The Date September 7

Knowing it would be hard to pull off a surprise engagement, Derek decided to propose on a random night after work. When Valerie arrived home she opened the door to find a single light shining on Derek who was down on one knee with a ring in hand. Once Valerie said yes, they began planning a late summer wedding with a yellow and blue color palette and a circle motif at the Detroit Yacht Club.
